About us

The Sorell Bowls Club was founded in 1964.  Our first president was Mr T. Lipscombe, who served for three seasons. Our first patron was Mr B.L. Ralph, and the original club room was much smaller than it is today.

We were the 17th club to be affiliated within the Southern Tasmanian Bowls Association (STBA) in 1968-69 (there are now 28).

Our first win saw our Division 6 men’s team win the STBA flag in the 1969-70 season – and they went on to win the state flag as well.

The expanded club room

In 1989, we installed our first synthetic green.  By then, the club had been extended and signage had been installed.  The green has a sand-and-cement foundation under an asphalt sub-base with a sand base under the synthetic green.

50th Anniversary

We’re now onto our third green and we celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2014, and in 2017, we undertook major building works with two grants from the Liberal government (and all our hard-saved funds).

In 2018, with the renovations completed, a grand opening, and a new entrance, we became the Sorell Bowls and Community Club.
